Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and we should definitely enjoy the very best Penang has to offer when it comes to it. Listed below are 7 places, all unique in its own way, that we feel everyone should try! Please note, this is only our opinion and so if you doubt us, try them out for yourself and let us know your opinion!
1. Bangkok Lane Mee Goreng & Mee Rebus, Seng Lee Cafe – The Legendary Indian Noodle
Specialty: A legendary Mee Goreng stall that’s been around for 80 years
Mee Goreng & Mee Rebus can be found anywhere in Penang but hunting for an awesome one can be quite the adventure. First up on the list is an awesome one that is a favourite of the AwesomePenang team, Bangkok Lane’s store. You know, we have a saying in Penang: if a stall’s food doesn’t taste good, it’ll be gone in 3 years. This Mee Goreng store has been here for 80 years (that dates back to the 1930′s!), so what do you think?

2. Oh Lay Ee Hokkien Mee/Loh Mee
Specialty: It’s both cheap and filling, those are a Penangnite’s favorite combination
If you’re an exercise enthusiast that gets up in the wee hours of the morning or just a person on his way to a very early morning work shift, this stall is for you. Operating as early as 5a.m. in the morning, it’ll definitely cater to anyone’s taste. Not only does it serve you our Penang famous and unique Hokkien Prawn Mee, you can also add-on other ingredients to make your meal an awesome one!

3. Big Ben Breakfast @ Waterfall Road
Specialty: A unique Western variety for Botanical Garden visitors
Botanical Garden is a favorite spot for many Penangnites for their early morning walks or sports, so it comes as no surprise that you will definitely find good breakfast food there! Big Ben not only prepares good and delicious breakfast, it makes sure that it is healthy too!

4. Koay Teow Th’ng @ Sungai Nibong
Specialty: Has many other delicious food to offer other than the famed Koay Teow Th’ng
Sungai Nibong hawker stall is also a favorite of the team, we visit there often to enjoy not only its famous Koay Teow Th’ng but also its Yong Tau Fu, Wan Tan Mee and much more! It’s a hawker centre that you must visit whenever you can as it truly offers a great selection of awesome Penang food!

5. Ah Lai Cafe Under the Big Tree
Specialty: More famously known as “Cafe Under The Big Tree”, unique for its location
Old Town-style modern coffee houses are popping up at an alarming rate all over Penang, so it’s definitely refreshing to find that traditional and awesome coffee shops like this still exist today. It serves very simplistic breakfast such as eggs and toast and also some varieties of noodles. But really, it’s the style and nostalgia of the place that’ll really grab you

6. The Cheapest Dim Sum in Penang – Dim Sum Food Restaurant
Specialty: The cheapest dim sum you can find in Penang with outstanding quality, what else can you ask for?
What’s next is our Penangnite’s favorite Sunday breakfast iwht our families, dim sum! Being a general lover of dim sum, I’ve visited many dim sum outlets before and normally find myselff either disappointed with the taste or shocked by the price. Well, give this place a shot, you’ll definitely come to enjoy it, I know I did.

7. Duck Egg Kaya Toast @ Kopitiam Kheng Hai, Simpang Ampat
Specialty: Uses duck egg in its kaya, giving it a taste unlike any other
We’ve all enjoyed kaya before sometime in our lives, but rarely will you find kaya made from Duck Egg! This unique blend of ingredients combine to give this toast a unique taste that you won’t be able to find anywhere else. Make sure to give it a try and let us know how you feel about it! Do note that this is in Butterworth and not on Penang Island specifically.
