Awesomed because of its Banana Leaf Set Rice
There are a few iconic banana leaf rice eateries in Penang and one of them is Passion of Kerala. There are currently two outlets in Penang, one in Gelugor and another one in New World Park.
Passion of Kerala emphasizes different spices, aromas and color in their cuisine. Fresh spices like pepper, cloves, turmeric, cinnamon, mustard seeds, chilies and curry leaves are some of the many spices used to prepare the food. The sides are especially creamy, cooked with a generous amount of grated coconut and coconut milk.
The signature banana leaf rice is a kaleidoscope of flavors. They are served on a banana leaf to maintain its authenticity. It comes with a choice of white rice or tomato rice with four refillable assortment of dishes. All these four dishes make up a great combination of taste – sweet, sour, salty and spicy. Taste really amazing! Here is an interesting tip for you guys! To show ones appreciation to a satisfying meal, it is customary to fold the banana leafs towards you. To indicate that the meal is not satisfying, fold the banana leaf in the opposite direction. Try on it!
If this is not enough to whet your appetite, there is a wide selection of poultry dishes too. Particularly enjoyable is the curry fish. The spiciness of the curry is marvelous, this thick gravy is full in flavor and spices. Another must-try dishes here is the deep fried chicken which is marinated with Indian spices. It tasted best when eaten immediately upon serving, so crispy and crunchy yet the meat is juicy and flavorful. Perfect combination with the banana leaf rice!
The refreshing Mango Lassi makes up the drinks. The taste is still up to its standard, creamy and flavorful. It serves as a good neutralizer for the spicy food that you had.
This outlet is not fancifully decorated but it serves awesome banana leaf rice and other side dishes with right blend of flavors.
